Para dejar de fumar

Sentado en la cubierta de la pequeña embarcación de apenas 8 metros de eslora contemplaba la inmensidad del mar, un inmenso manto en cuyos 4 puntos cardinales solamente veía agua,agua y más agua.
Eran las 4 de la mañana,el resto de la tripulación dormía, yo meditaba. Mi mirada se perdía a lo lejos en un punto imaginario del horizonte. Mis pensamientos fluían libremente en ese inmenso campo abierto pero por momentos el silencio telúrico de la soledad me aplastaba y era el frío lo que me daba la certeza de mi soledad.
Pensaba que apenas una semana atrás, abordo de la misma embarcación, había afirmado que no había placer más hermoso como el de fumarse un cigarrillo en alta mar.
Pero esa noche, una luna redonda, plateada y brillante como una joya recién trabajada, fulguraba en lo alto del cielo, por los 4 costados mar,mar y mar, inmenso mar cuya superficie había sido teñida de un color azul plateado que centelleaba haciendome entornar los ojos. La belleza de esa noche sobre el piélago me había enajenado y enmudecido, respiraba paz, tranquilidad, hermosa soledad. Soplaba un viento suave, la lancha se balanceaba pausadamente, el chas cchas de las olas sobre la quilla era apenas perceptible. La brisa fresca e invisible jugaba con mis cabellos y acariciaba mi rostro, mi mirada fija y perdida allá a lo lejos entre cualuier punto entre el mar y el cielo. Apenas parpadeaba por temor a perder un segundo de contemplación. Intentaba grabar con fuego en mi memoria esa emoción y belleza natural.
Rasgué el sello de la cajetilla que tenía entre mis manos, saqué un cigarrillo y me disponía a encenderlo, pero de ponto,dentro de mí anonadamiento, apareció un pensamiento demoledor produciéndome un cataclismo espiritual..."¡Cómo un ser insignificante como yo... se atreve a contaminar esta hermosa y pura naturaleza!. Por varios segundos miré detenidamente al cigarro y con la tranquilidad de un verdugo lo destruí entre mis dedos. El instante era muy hermoso para envenenarlo.
Hace 23 años tuve este pensamiento y nunca más volví a fumar.
